Not sure what caused the original issue with the DW-8400 / DW-6900 module - seller never mentioned anything in particular. As mentioned the inside of the display was smeared somehow although the module didn't show any particular signs of water ingress (i.e. corrosion). Anyhow guess the LCD will either work or not so if the display acts as it did probably the PCB. If I ever get another module and some time may have another look...
