    old Resin Bezel and Straps

Yep. It's a real problem and it makes owning an original DW-5500 a serious risk. If I had one, I'd sell it immediately and just buy a new version. I do have an original DW-5700C bezel that I'm tempted to treat with vinyl restorer and see if it does the trick. But I'm going to test this out...

    old Resin Bezel and Straps

Oh I could get another band. Part of the advantage of this older DW-1100 (not a G-Shock) is that the lug spacing fits a common size, unlike the G-Shocks. I'm just lamenting over the unexpected resin rot. I have one more TW-7100 band and I'm just hesitant about giving it a go. Ultimately not...

    GPW-1000 - Whoa!!!!!

@Chrisek -- my apologies... I was having a "CONUS" moment! A bit ignorant of me not to consider those outside atomic sync range. I've revised my posting. :)

    old Resin Bezel and Straps

I thought that resin rot would always be an obvious thing. The telltale sign that resin may be suffering from it is a layer of "dust". It's actually particles of the resin breaking down. You can wipe it off and see the tissue having the color of the resin on it. The resin surface becomes shiny...

    GPW-1000 - Whoa!!!!!

Definitely a beautiful looking Aviator model. I'm also reticent to look up the price. I have to believe it'll be super expensive. Frankly, I find synchronizing nightly is fine, as long as it is available. GPS just for the sake of the time signal is a bit overkill for the functionality, but I...

GW-1100 - Anyone has? Please share.

I have gone SCUBA diving, so wearing a Frogman doesn't make me feel like I'm "posing." OTOH, there are other Aviator models that do appeal to me, without trying to look exclusively used by pilots. You guys make good points, though. I guess nothing wrong with dreaming. ;)

@ rutteger -- nice vintage DW-6000 there, John. Always liked that "device-like" looking G-Shock. Today, the skies have cleared showing off an azure blue, while the ocean remains a calm gray.

^ No Marlin there, John. It's a snorkeler. :encouragement: Very nice muddie, btw.

GW-1100 - Anyone has? Please share.

I really like the Aviator series and I'd own one of the GA-1000 or GW-A1000 models if they weren't so damned expensive. I can actually afford one, but I've limited myself to a specific watch budget and other G-Shock models have been taking priority. Call me weird, call me odd, but... if...

    Wruw 10-21 - 10-29

^ Funny thing about the 5 eyes, Chris. In your location they will always be blind. :p Today I'm wearing what would have been an old CASIO favorite, if I hadn't chosen the DW-2000 instead back in the mid 1980's. Fortunately with the remarkable connection of the Internet and eBay, I was...

    Who's going for the Rangeman?

Yeah, I wouldn't expect to see a new Frogman module for another couple of years. But if sales start to languish, maybe they'll do it sooner. I've often wondered how profitable the Frogman line has been for CASIO. They do charge a hefty price for admission, but if they don't sell many each year...

    Who's going for the Rangeman?

The thing about the Gulfman is that it's really covered by the G-Lide models. Water resistant to 200M, moon phase and tide graph... And if I'm not mistaken there are solar/atomic versions as well. The Gulfman is sort of a higher class version of a G-Lide I suppose... but is it enough to be a...

    Who's going for the Rangeman?

Agreed. I think that based on the price point, it really upsets things in the "Master of G" line. Certainly it kicked the Riseman into obsolescence (hence it being discontinued). Why would someone go for a Mudman 9300 when it's not much more to get a Rangeman? Major mud resistance situations...

Help needed ,Heart Breaking Condition wademan... & others

Yes indeed, congratulations on your restoration efforts John! Looks like your Wademan is back and ready for service. In the future, try to keep your stored watches in a cool dry place. Very warm and humid conditions can cause some resin to rot rather quickly.

    WRUW: 7th Oct -> 13th Oct

Putting an old G-2500 into service for at least part of the day (has dim back light, coupled with dark background doesn't make for a good evening watch).

Post Up Your Modified, Customs, and Remixed G-Shocks

Thanks, John. It's fun to do G-Shock mods, even minor ones that make for a little distinction. Another "mod" I did was to put a Riseman band on a GW-9100 Gulfman. What a nice difference--the contours make for a more comfortable fit. CASIO eventually went with the Riseman band style when the next...

    Who's going for the Rangeman?

I hear you, Chris. It's interesting about the carbon fiber, because the GW-S5600 had it and reports were that the carbon fiber was stiffer than resin. Of course in that case, it was "in your face" obvious with the fiber showing through shiny clear resin. It looks like the Rangeman strap is...

Post Up Your Modified, Customs, and Remixed G-Shocks

I like that look. The Fisherman and DW-9200 have frequently appeared on "that auction site" with yellowed resin and sold for fairly low amounts. I've long thought about doing that very dye job, a nice soft sky blue. My only "extensive" mod of late was to a GW-2310. Replaced the inner bezel...

Help needed ,Heart Breaking Condition wademan... & others

That's the trouble with models like that... the resin is very rare to find as spare parts and if you buy a used one, there's no telling until it's in your hands how resilient the resin actually is. I bought a DW-5700 that had the resin intact. It looked a little worn, but it wasn't bad. After a...

    Who's going for the Rangeman?

I've been waiting a long time too. What had kept me from buying a Riseman was the lack of a compass (the design lent itself to it--but the functionality eclipsed the 9300 Mudman). I almost bought a Mudman, but frankly I thought they were a bit overpriced for what they delivered. The Rangeman is...
